A low sits in the Tasman Sea today while a large high is centred just to the northeast of New Zealand.
In between lies a front which sits over northwestern parts of the South Island during the day.

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells. Chance of a light shower or two about otherwise mainly dry. Light northerly winds.
Highs: 18-20 Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible, more so about Taranaki. Long dry spells too. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-19 Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny with light northwesterly winds.

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17
Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud thickens in the morning, a few spots of rain possible about Nelson from afternoon then Marlborough in the evening. Light northwesterly winds.
High: 19
Canterbury
Mainly sunny with a touch of high cloud possible, light winds.
High: 17-19
West Coast
Morning showers clear then cloud breaks to sunny spells in the afternoon, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny after any early cloud clears away, light winds.
Highs: 16-17
