Police tape surrounds Maungatapu Superette this morning as police investigate an early morning break in.
A SunLive reader who drove past the shop on Maungatapu Road this morning says the door of the superette was smashed and police tape had been put up round the area.
'Really starting to get sick of these people robbing stores,” the reader said when they messaged us on Facebook.
A police spokesperson confirmed to SunLive that police received reports of a break in at a property on Maungatapu Road at about 1.40am.
'Officers attended and an investigation is under way. There are no details on whether anything was stolen.”
Police are at the scene the morning, working on establishing exactly what has happened.
People with information are asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.
This is the fifth shop to be targeted by offenders in the last three weeks.
The Lucky 7 on Maungatapu Road was robbed at gunpoint on April 26.
Two men, one armed with a machete robbed United Video on Fraser Street on May 2.
The very next night, on May 3, a man armed with a hammed attempted to rob Quality Food and Spice on Cameron Road.

Why are so many shops being targetted in the last few weeks? Are all these crimes somehow related .. or 'copycat' or what? I hope the police get the riff-raff who did this, and the justice system hands down a stiff penalty, to deter others from doing the same.
I totally agree Linaire...
