Gate Pa Kindergarten to close

The Board of Inspired Kindergartens has decided to close Gate Pa Kindergarten at the end of Term 2 (July 7).

The decision comes after a period of consultation with families and staff.

Families were advised of the decision this afternoon.

Following the consultation period, a few expressions of interest were received, but were not sufficient to address the funding shortfall.

In a press release today, the board says while the kindergarten serves the community's specific needs, these are not recognised by the bulk funding system.

“The system recognises numbers not need. Transience and the housing crisis have affected the number of children and families who could enrol. Every effort is being made to relocate children to other kindergartens operated by Inspired.

“We acknowledge the very dedicated and highly competent staff who have worked tirelessly and beyond the call of duty to address the declining roll.

“The board also wishes to thank the core group of parents who have supported the kindergarten over a long period of time.”
