Foster parents sought for Tauranga dog

Tauranga SPCA is seeking someone who is keen to take on a dog who has not had the best start in life.

In a Facebook post, the SPCA is appealing for a 'dedicated foster person with professional canine training skills to work with a large dog and get him adoption ready”.

'The Mastiff breed dog was removed from a property by Inspectors where he had been tethered by a heavy chain and was lacking some of the most basic requirements for care.

'He has had little opportunity to meet other dogs and needs to learn some important social skills.”

The SPCA says consideration will only be given to people that have the proven ability to give him the skills that he requires.

Any expressions of interest should be made by email to inspector@taurangaspca.co.nz

,,,,,,surely we can't change the natural desire of such an animal and it's upbringing. Sad as it is (genuinely)..I totally agree with maildrop...please !

Poor thing

This dog obviously has some great qualities despite being treated badly by his previous owners. Hope he finds a super new owner that will treat him well. The chain around his neck looks so heavy poor bugger.

People who have treated animals like this should be banned from owning an animal forever! I hope this dog finds a 'forever home' with someone who will give him the love and care he deserves.

You guys are entitled to voice an opinion but I think you should give the SPCA credit for some intelligence. Do you really think they would considering rehoming this dog if it had temperament issues?? Just because its a large dog doesn't mean its a savage beast. From actual experience as a registered breeder & dog showing I can tell you the most aggressive & bad tempered dogs at shows are the small breeds but because they are small people don't think its such an issue. The only dog I have ever been bitten by was a Corgi - when I tried to stop it attacking my very docile Cocker Spaniel.

Lovely old fulla

To me, he looks like a lovely old fulla albeit a lonely gaze about him. I've had dogs for 40 years now, currently Fox Terriers. Dogs are masters of body language and exude it themselves. Give him a chance. Laurie is quite correct in what he said about spca.

judging from photos

Papamoaner can judge dogs.... and people, just from a photo! He has powers the rest of us can only dream of.

I wish you would stop following me from thread to thread just to hurl abuse with no interest in the topic under discussion. I have a low tolerance for psychopaths.

Yes, I think Capt Sensible is spot on to. And, what "abuse"????? is Papamoaner refering to?? Has it come now that anyone who disagrees with Lord Papamoanaer is guilty of abuse? Come on princess , this is a forum where people are entitled to disagree

Hope someone adopted him

He has potential. Not aggressive, especially considering he's being approached by a stranger. Tail not tucked under, ears down, not back. Yes, you can tell a lot from faces and body language. Both humans and animals.Psychologists use it as one of many factors when profiling.People who don't love animals would not agree, as already evidenced.

Unprovoked and ongoing snide sarcasm on various forums, showing NO INTEREST on topic, is oblique abuse in my book mate. Instead of acting like an agreeing gutless lap dog to him, adding pathetic insults at your own level, how about showing us some intellect by presenting some originality on your own behalf? What are YOUR views on the dog and what ought to be done with him? That's what we are here to discuss.

Whole, heartedly agree with you. The pieces of human excrement that treated him badly need euthanising. Not the dog.
