Mental health will be under the spotlight when inspirational speaker and ‘Live More Awesome' founder Jimi Hunt comes to town.

He's speaking at Mount Maunganui College hall tonight, as part of an event organised by the Gwen Rogers Kindergarten Parent's Support Group.

Organiser Leanne Hopkins says they're hoping to raise money for an upgrade to the kindergarten's vegetable garden.

'We're parents who love what the kindy teachers do. We have got a very old site – we're one of the oldest kindergartens in the area. As a result of changes to funding, we really need to fundraise for anything above and beyond the bare basics.”

She says the garden needs to be more accessible to children, and much bigger – they like to grow produce for the community too.

Around 150 tickets have been sold so far, although the hall has the capacity for 400 people. So there will definitely be door sales on the night, says Leanne.

Tickets are $20, which includes nibbles beforehand. Mills Reef Winery will be running the bar, and there will be raffle on the night. Bar opens at 6.30pm, for a 7.30pm start.
