‘Stormy’ end to the week

WeatherWatch.co.nz head forecaster Philip Duncan has the latest on the approaching bad weather. Watch the video below.

New Zealand looks likely to have a ‘rough' ending to the week as a developing and deepening low tracks our way.

While WeatherWatch.co.nz doesn't yet consider it to be a storm it may produce pockets of 'stormy” weather, created by the squash zone between this deepening low and a big belt of high pressure currently over New Zealand.

Tuesday and Wednesday remain dominated by high pressure for the most part, with late rain reaching Northland on Wednesday.

By Thursday much of the North Island has rain, showers or drizzle patches and rain moves into the South Island turning to snow in the ranges - where it may be heavy.

By Friday the low is crossing the North Island bringing wind and rain - but also calm areas and dry spells thanks to the large centre of this system.

Saturday looks to be cooler with south to south west winds nationwide.
