Police have arrested three people they believe to be responsible to the robbery at Caltex Service Station in Tauriko earlier this morning.

The robbery at the petrol station on State Highway 29 was reported to police at 6.45am.

The offenders drove a stolen vehicle into the forecourt of the Caltex, entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes.

'One of the offenders has then assaulted the attendant who has suffered moderate injuries,” says police.

'The attendant received medical attention at Tauranga Hospital A&E and has since been discharged but has been offered ongoing support.”

The offenders left the store with cigarettes and then all three offenders fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

'Waikato Police including a dog unit located the offending vehicle and apprehended three people shortly after.

'Police are currently speaking to the offenders, one female and two males, and it's anticipated that charges will be laid later today.”

The service station has now re-opened.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area in the early hours of this morning or who has any information which may help our investigation is asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 5774300

Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

We hear so much about the trauma & harm done by these lowlife types, lets see a message sent to them by giving these three the maximum sentence allowed.

Agree with myview. Hopefully in that time the guards will forget where they put the keys so they can't get back out!! Hope the attendant is ok and gets over the trauma.

Great job

Now hopefully the Judge will have the balls to throw the book at these idiots and not hand out some wet lettuce leaf sentence after the Police did such a great job of catching them

I saw 4 cop cars and dog handler all pull into Hinuera Rugby club at 9.10am there was a small vehicle parked in there alone, wondering if that was the stolen vehicle? but good Police work, job well done we just hope the justice system follows up with the rest?? instead of the usual pitiful sentences they hand out?

Well done Police

Hope there will finally be a appropriate sentencing. No point of catching them if they're left off lightly. Will just give others the same stupid selfish nonsense idea that they'll get away lightly too.

low flies

yes and ban them all from owning or driving any vehicle for life

I can understand...

...people driven by addictions committing crimes to support their habit. Of course, I don't condone it. But what I don't understand is why they resort to unnecessary violence? There was no need to rough up the attendant; he's just doing his job, and there's not much he can do when the odds are 3:1. Police did a great job and I share the hope of most posters here that "aggravated" robbery should get a stiffer sentence than plain pilfering... I'd like to see reparations for victims too.
