New classrooms for Bay schools

Education minister Tim Macindoe announced that Taupo-nui-a-Tia College would be one of schools to benefit from the 2017 budget.

Three Bay of Plenty schools will get flash new classrooms after a $33 million school investment was announcement this week.

The 2017 budget has provided around $30 million and a further $3 million will be invested in schools in the region, says associate education minister Tim Macindoe.

'On top of the new school in Papamoa, the expansion of Golden Sands School and nine new roll-growth classrooms at Pillans Point Primary School announced last month, the first round of school infrastructure investment in Budget 2017 will also provide six new classrooms to three schools in the region,” says Tim.

The three schools to receive new classrooms are Taupo-nui-a-Tia College with two new classrooms, Te Puke Primary with one new classroom, and Taupo Intermediate with three new classrooms.

'The Ministry of Education will work with the schools to ensure that their new classrooms meet the current and future needs of their students and provide the best possible learning environments to enable their students to reach their potential.”

These schools have been selected due to a significant increase in local and international students.

Tim says Taupo-nui-a-Tia College, Te Puke Primary and Taupo Intermediate Schools rolls have continued to grow since 2016, which is why there is high demand for new classrooms.

The new classrooms are expected to be completed by the end of the 2018 school year.

Last year $23.2 million was invested from the budget for a new school in Pyes Pa and 14 classrooms at six schools.

'Overall, Budget 2017 is investing $456.5 million in education infrastructure which takes our overall commitment to school property to over $5 billion in recent years.”
