Road closed for tree cropping

The road in front of the city's courthouse was closed today in order for tree pruning to take place.

The section of Cameron Road between Harington Street and McLean Street was closed to traffic early this morning to allow arborists to cut and drop large branches onto the road.

The trees are four London planes, which have been causing problems for the courthouse and its users through an overabundance of leaf litter and small branches dropping onto the footpath.

Pruning began earlier this month, with the use of a chainsaw by arborists causing one case to be briefly adjourned while a less noisy alternative was arranged.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson was unable to confirm whether the road closure would continue into the week.
