More than 600 residents have given feedback on the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region's draft Arts & Culture Strategy.

The ambitious strategy, which provides a framework for arts and cultural events and initiatives, contains six goals and 32 action points to be implemented within a three year timeframe following adoption.

It was developed by a steering group of local creative, education, business and iwi representatives.

Steering group chairperson Sonya Korohina says those behind the strategy are thrilled with the response.

'We are absolutely delighted to have had so many people not only take an interest in this detailed plan for the arts in our region, but also take the time to provide such valuable feedback.

'We had more than 600 feedback forms completed, and even more feedback via Facebook, various hui and the formal submission process. It really shows residents – as creators, enablers and consumers – understand the value of the arts in this region and how important it is for us to have a plan in place.”

She says they're particularly pleased with how diverse the respondents were – feedback came from across the region and represented all sectors, genders, cultures, abilities and ages.

'Our next step will be to analyse and review the feedback and consider any potential revisions to the strategy and its action points. And we're starting to talk to our implementation partners, as this strategy is a collaborative effort.”

The steering group will then consider the updated strategy document, along with its partnership implementation plan and comment on potential funding issues, in August.

The final Arts & Culture Strategy document, with a confirmed implementation plan for the period July 2018 to June 2021 and beyond, together with funding framework recommendations, will be completed in October, before being presented to both Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council for consideration and adoption in November.

Not just anti museums it seems, but you appear also to place no value on art. Feet of clay !
