Storm clouds are brewing as the MetService issues a severe weather warning for the Bay of Plenty.
Anywhere between 90 to 100mm of rain is forecast to accumulate in nine to 12 hour period around midday.
'A large complex low pressure system is expected to move over the country on Thursday, and its associated front should move across the North Island from late morning to overnight Thursday, bringing a burst of heavy rain to the northern parts of the Island,” says the latest forecast from the MetService.
'The heaviest falls are expected in Bay of Plenty and Rotorua from Thursday afternoon to overnight, where 90 to 110mm of rain could accumulate in 9 to 12 hours.
'People in these areas should watch out for rapidly rising streams and rivers, and hazardous driving conditions, with slips and surface flooding possible.”

Rain is expected to become heavy Thursday afternoon, and ease overnight Thursday.
For the area from Opotiki westwards: In the 9 hours from 3pm Thursday to midnight Thursday, expect 60 to 90mm to accumulate. Peak intensities 20 to 30mm per hour.
For the area east of Opotiki: In the 12 hours from 3pm Thursday to 3am Friday, expect 70 to 110mm to accumulate, especially on the ranges, peak intensities 20 to 30mm per hour.
