A man is dead from what police believe may be a gunshot wound.

Police were called to an incident at an address on Whangamata Road in Kinloch, Taupo, at 8.45pm.

Officers were called to assist ambulance following reports of an injured male at the address.

'A man has been found dead at the scene and at this stage it appears to be from a gunshot wound,” says a statement from police.

'Police enquiries continued through the night and a scene guard will be in place at the address.

'Police are in the early stages of their investigation and there is no further information available at this time.”
