Young performers will have the chance to shine at the sixth annual ‘The Night Is Young' showcase, held at Baycourt.

On August 16, hundreds of talented students from up to 10 Bay of Plenty secondary schools will put on displays from a range of performing arts.

Friends of Baycout chairwoman Anna Finlayson-Smith says ‘The Night Is Young' is an exciting opportunity for young performers to experience their moment under the spotlight and share their remarkable gifts with the community.

'Last year we had almost 200 students performing, and the numbers are looking very similar this year.

'In the past ‘The Night Is Young' has showcased a wide variety of performances, and each year is different. But what always stays the same is the interaction between the performers, and the excitement and enjoyment both back stage and on stage, which makes for a pleasant experience at Baycourt.”

Along with the chance to perform in front of a large crowd, ‘The Night Is Young' also offers students opportunities to get involved in the lighting and technical aspects of the performance, as well as marketing the showcase within their school community through the Friends of Baycourt Sign Tour.

Established in 2011, the driving vision for the event to provide an opportunity for secondary school students to showcase their performing arts talent without the pressure of competition.

'It's not competitive, it's an opportunity for students to enjoy being on stage performing an already in place performance, and most importantly, give the community an insight into just how great the talent is within Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty,” says Anna.
