Heavy rain and strong northerly winds are expected to hit the Bay of Plenty tomorrow, as well as other parts of the North and South Island.

The Western Bay will receive a downpour of rain from morning to late evening on Wednesday.

Metservice says a couple of fronts associated with a low over the Tasman Sea are forecast to approach New Zealand during Tuesday, before moving across the country on Wednesday, bringing rain and strong northerly winds to many places.

Heavy rain and strong winds will also hit the Westland, Buller, Nelson, and North Taranaki from today onwards.

Metservice has advised people to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case the circumstances change to a weather warning, or if further areas are added.
