Omokoroa glow disks, what do you think?

Western Bay of Plenty Council ask for feedback through Facebook poll.

The Western Bay of Plenty Council are asking for feedback on a trial of glow disks along the new section of boardwalk at Omokoroa.

The trial is set to occur on the 1.1km section, which stretches from Tinopai Reserve to Lynley Park.

Project manager Scott Parker says the council want to open up a discussion with public before making a permanent change.

'We want to make informed decisions,” says Scott.

'There is an obvious cost and we don't want to go blindly ahead.”

The cycle way has been jointly funded by the Government's Urban Cycleways Fund, the National Land Transport Fund, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, NZ Community Trust and the Omokoroa Community Board.

The glow discs are being laid as tactic to increase safety on the track.

'The disks have been laid on parts of the track where there is no street lighting, to provide an outline of the path.”

So far feedback has been positive, says Scott.

To give feedback on the new trial visit the Western Bay of Plenty District Council page on Facebook.

Yeah do it! I hope vandals will leave them alone.

There is an obvious cost and we don't want to go blindly ahead. says WBOPC staff BUT choose NOT to divulge the cost to the community to enable those responding to make an 'informed decision'. Is it a priority? Are we better to invest in byuilding more pathways? What is the cost per unit for purchase and installation and how many meters anticipated to light up? What is the anticipated whole of life costs, including depreciation and maintenance. What is the risk, wear and tear, vandelism? Look pretty for a while BUT as Tauranga City Council has already found out, they don't last long!

if it was a sensible and realistic cost then Council would ignore it. Obviously the costs will be huge as Council is doing it, lease we forget the concret stairs saga.

Well Done WBOPDC

Thank you WBOPDC for really trying to make Omokoroa a nice place to live. Ignore Capt Caveman and Murray Guy they are just a bunch of nay sayers. Murray you do not even live in Omokoroa stop poking your nose into our area. You are not going to get us living here to live in the dark ages like you and your cronies like to live.

Yeah go Dippie

Take no prisoners! They all think inside the square. LED lights come in all shapes and sizes now, and cost peanuts. Vandalism might be your biggest problem at the initial stages, but the locals will soon haf zee vays und meens to fix that. (aka the Katzenjammer kids - showing my age eh). One way is to use local volunteers and involve the young people in that too. Pride in ownership and all that.
