Five motorcycles worth $13,000 each have been taken from a Ngatea business in a ram raid style burglary.

The Yamaha dirt bikes were taken in a ram raid at a business on Ngatea's main street at 3.50am, says police.

A 1990 Nissan Safari, registration FTC72, was used to ram the fence on the northern side of the yard. The vehicle had previously been stolen from Flatbush, Auckland.

Ngatea Police say a group of offenders is involved.

The bikes were loaded onto a furniture moving type truck and the stolen vehicle was abandoned not far from the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and CCTV footage is currently being reviewed.

Business owner Mark Browne says the local support is heart-warming.

A truck driver passing through saw people in the yard and stopped to call police.

'Another lady passing through town and she rang as well. It's quite warming to think people actually do care,” says Mark.

'It could lead to an arrest, who knows. It was seen and recorded on I believe three different surveillance cameras.”

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle, or the truck, in the area this morning.

Anyone with information that could assist with enquiries can be directed to Paeroa Police on (07) 862 8744.

Alternatively, information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
