A woman in her 80s was taken to hospital with multiple injuries following a two car crash near Hikuai.

Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of State Highway 25 and Hikuai Settlement Road around 2.30pm.

The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust dispatched Westpac 1 to fly the woman to hospital.

A spokesperson for the rescue chopper says the woman one of a number of patients involved in the crash.

'Crew assisted a female in her 80's who was suffering multiple injuries.

'She was flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
