Bay of Plenty farmers are shocked after a being victim to a series of animal attacks in rural Whakatane areas.
Christine Tipper says her father, an owner of Awakeri farm, discovered two cows that had been shot, dead on their property within 3-4 meters of each other.
She says it's suspected the animals may have been there for over a week.
'You would expect them to take the meat but they didn't,” says Christine.
The incident is not the first of its kind for the farm owners and the culprit is yet to be found.
'It's happened here and there over the past year, but we thought it was over until we found more yesterday,” says Christine.
'We are pretty sure whoever is doing it is coming in from the back of our farm which backs onto a forestry block.”
The attack comes after a similar one occurred, where a hunting knife was discovered in a sheep at a farm on White Pine Bush earlier last week.
If you have any information on either incident contact the Whakatane Police on 07 308 5255.

This is peoples livelihood. We need urgent legislation to give enforcement agencies the power to seize vehicles, deepfreezers, houses, firearms, or anything else used in the commission of the offence. It's working for Paua poachers, so we know it works.
100% correct

I don't know why it is that evil crims just get a warning when caught - Papamoaner is 100% correct - in the old days cattle rustlers were shot on sight, so lets us have some strong laws now to protect decent/honest people working hard to make their living.

In Singapore they get the RATTAN. Word has it they NEVER come back for a second taste. Win-win for everybody because they have a small prison population as a result. Here in NZ it costs the taxpayer somewhere around 80 or 90 $k per annum to feed and keep the bastards.

This is so bad. I agree with papamoana and rastus. Sorry, though, I have to wonder how it came that the cows weren't discovered earlier? My Dad checked on his cattle daily. My sympathies to the farmers
