Toddler pulls boiling oil over himself

A toddler was rushed to hospital after accidentally pulling a pot of boiling oil over himself.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Opotiki about 1pm yesterday after the three-year-old pulled the pot on top of himself.

Pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly says the 'young fella received serious burns to his upper body and face”.

'He was stabilised at the scene by St John medics before being flown, along with his mother, to Waikato Hospital for specialist treatment.”

Another callout at 1pm had the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter dispatched to a crash on State Highway 2, in the Karangahake Gorge.

A spokesperson for the rescue chopper says a young woman received serious internal injuries.

At 3pm, the helicopter was then dispatched to Taumarunui to retrieve a young man who crashed off his motocross bike also suffering serious internal injuries.

'Both patients were flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.”
