More than 120 people gathered at Mount Drury this morning for Mount Unity Mass Meditation.

The mass meditation event allowed those in attendance to connect globally through meditation and occurred in conjunction with another mass meditation event in Mount Shasta, California, who played witness to a Total Solar Eclipse.

Gisele Martins, who attended the event, says she believes it brought peace and unity amongst the community.

'I felt at home, perhaps for being in my heart and in the same time supported by a community that also believes in the essence of love.

'I also felt hopeful for human race. Most of the time we are bombarded with negative and sad news, but there is always good on Earth, we just need to recognise it.”

'I believe it's important people come together to break any apparent differences, such as nationality, colour, gender, culture, sexuality and so on, to understand we are all one human race.

'It is very peaceful to be in silence in the midst of stunning nature surroundings, such as the trees, ocean and sky.”

The ceremony began at 6am, after being opened by one of its organisers Victoria Ashley who beat a small drum.

Other organisers include Angela Bowerman, Mataora Rongoa Hotoke and Jinyoo Shun.

Angela says the event was an all-round success.

'It went really well, everyone was really happy and the sunrise was amazing this morning, it was so bright and really different.”

She says that plans are already under way to host the next event at the top of Mount Maunganui.

'The reason I chose Mount Drury is because I heard there were children and elderly people coming, and we really didn't want them to miss out because they were still making it up the mountain.”

'We're thinking it will be perfect to do the next event on the Mount.”
