It's another wet weekend for the Bay of Plenty, Rotorua and west of Whakatane with weather warnings being put into place today and Sunday.

A low near Northland is moving slowly eastwards bringing periods of heavy rain to the northern and eastern North Island during today and Sunday.

The Metservice issued a heavy rain warning saying that in 12 hours from 8am today up to 90mm of rain is expected to fall, with peak intensities of 15 to 25mm per hour this morning.

The heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly, surface flooding and slips, and driving conditions may be hazardous.

Heavy rain watches have also been issued for Coromandel Peninsula, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay, north of Napier.

Seventy to 90mm of rain is possible in the 12 hours to 8pm in Coromandel Peninsula,

In the Hawke's Bay 90mm of rain could be possible 18 to 21 hours from 4pm today, although falls will mainly be above the ranges.
