More than 20,000 competitors, officials and supporters are expected to descend on Tauranga this coming weekend for the week-long 14th annual Anchor AIMS Games.
For the second time, Tauranga City Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council have teamed up to proudly sponsor free public transport for competitors and officials as well as the Anchor AIMS Games Park and Ride shuttle.
“We are so pleased to have the support from the two Councils to make sure the competitors and supporters are able to travel around the city to the event venues as safely and easily as possible," says tournament director Vicki Semple.
“This kind of support is essential to ensuring the Games run as successfully and smoothly as possible.”
Competitors, coaches and referees can get around these Anchor AIMS Games with the free park and ride shuttle from ASB Baypark, linking Bayfair (Baywave), Links Avenue Reserve, Blake Park and the Mount Hot Pools every 30 minutes.
Or jump on any local Bay Hopper service for free by showing your Anchor AIMS games wristband.
Families and supporters of Anchor AIMS Games participants can also catch the free park and ride Anchor AIMS Games shuttle. However, normal fares apply if using other Bayhopper services.
“For residents not involved in the Anchor AIMS Games, this is a great chance to check out some of the fantastic sports action," says Gareth Wallis, Manager: City Events at Tauranga City Council.
“Avoid the stress of being stuck in traffic during this busy period and catch the park and ride shuttle for free to and from the Anchor AIMS Games venues.”
