Slip area on Mauao base track reopens

A slip at North Rock on the Mauao base track will be cleared by late this afternoon, allowing visitors to walk the whole loop again this weekend.

The slip occurred during heavy rain on Saturday 2 September. There may be some short closures early next week while contractors finish repairs.

“This slip was much easier to clear than the one caused by ex-Cyclone Debbie in April,” says Parks and Recreation Manager Mark Smith.

“When debris falls onto the track, as in this case, we can usually restore it very quickly. When the track itself falls away, it can take a much longer time to repair.”
