A slip at North Rock on the Mauao base track will be cleared by late this afternoon, allowing visitors to walk the whole loop again this weekend.

The slip occurred during heavy rain last Saturday, September 2. There may be some short closures early next week while contractors finish repairs.

The entire base track was closed last Saturday after the slip and debris fell across the track, and re-opened on Monday apart from the section near the slip itself.

'This slip was much easier to clear than the one caused by ex-Cyclone Debbie in April,” says Parks and Recreation Manager Mark Smith.

'When debris falls onto the track, as in this case, we can usually restore it very quickly. When the track itself falls away, it can take a much longer time to repair.”
