The tsunami warning beach and marine for parts of New Zealand has officially been cancelled.

The NZ Civil Defence issued a tsunami warning in effect for Chatham Islands, Pegasus Bay, Northern Coasts of Hawke's Bay and East Cape, following the 8.2M earthquake near Chiapas Mexico.

The Ministry of Civil Defence and emergency management have cancelled the national warning tsunami threat to all beach and marine.

"Based on all available data, the tsunami beach and marine threat for the above areas has now passed," say the Ministry of Civil Defence and emergency management.

"Coastal areas will likely experience unusual, strong currents and surges lasting for several more hours."
