Expressions of interest are being sought from local artists and creative groups who might like to make use of the empty window space at Creative Bay of Plenty's Willow Street hub.

The intention is to give artists of all persuasions some valuable exposure on one of the CBD's busiest thoroughfares.

Creative Bay of Plenty general manager Lena Kovac says since the hub's gallery has moved to the Historic Village, they no longer have a way of showcasing artists' work – apart from the window space.

'We thought a window facing onto Willow Street was a great opportunity for artists. We don't mind what they put in the window – clubs can advertise for new members, or promote an event.

'It's a two-week bookable space, free of charge, although the focus is on artists or non-profit art groups, not businesses.”

Lena says recent changes to the Willow Street space have transformed it into more of an information and drop-in centre for creativity in the region.

'We want to become a hub for people to find out what's happening in the arts and culture scene in the Western Bay of Plenty. In the future we're intending to run some professional development workshops for artists, either for free or at low cost, around self-promotion and attracting funding.”

The bookings will be for a two week period, with artists required to bring all materials to create the display. There is approximately 2m to use, facing onto Willow Street.
