Fire rips through Te Puna house

UPDATED 8.54AM: An investigation is underway into a fire which ripped through a Te Puna home this morning.

Firefighters were called to the fire on Minden Road just before 6.30am.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips says the fire happened at a large house on Minden Road.

“The house was well involved in fire when the first crew arrived,” says Jaron.

“There's still a fire crew at the site, along with a specialist fire investigator and he's launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.”

“They're continuing to dampen down at the moment.”

It is unclear how long crews will be on site for, says Jaron.

EARLIER:

A fire has torn through a Te Puna home this morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 6.30am.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips says the house was "well ablaze" when firefighters arrived.

The fire is at a large house on Minden Road, Te Puna, says Jaron.

Crews are still at the scene and police have been called to assist with traffic control.
