Heke denies attempted murder charge

A man facing three counts of attempted murder after allegedly firing upon police officers has denied the charge.

Rollie James Heke appeared in the District Court at Rotorua via audio visual link today.

During the appearance, he and his fellow co-accused pleaded not guilty to the charges they are facing.

Natasha Dawn Telford, 43, Joseph Manunui Long, 42, Monique Eggleton, 31, and Rangimaria Haami, 62, who all face the accessory charges, with Eggleton also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Eggleton was the only other person to appear via AVL with Heke due to technical difficulties.

Justice Timothy Brewer set a trial date of October 1, 2018, scheduling three weeks.

Heke, 36, spent 12 days on the run after allegedly firing at three police officers with a semi-automatic, military-style weapon on the outskirts of Morrinsville, in the Waikato, in the early hours of August 13.

Court documents show Heke faces eight charges in total – three of attempting to murder a police officer, possession of a semi-automatic firearm, possession of ammunition, failure to stop and two charges of possession of equipment to manufacture methamphetamine.

Sad that so many law breakers cannot man-up to their actions and would rather put their souls in the hands of strangers.

Either way it is, guilty or not they are charged and so a Jury or a judge and jury will hear it and decide his/their fate.

The one decent thing he could do is plead guilty and save us a $$bomb$$. Don't thinks so - no brain, no pain!
