Mary Poppins, accompanied by chimney-sweep Bert, called in to the children's ward at Tauranga Hospital on Saturday.

"We've come up 'ere to the children's ward, just to give the kiddies some 'lil colouring books and some pencils," says Bert.

"And Mary's put some packs together for them."

The practically perfect Mary Poppins chatted with the children, some of whom are patients and some children of staff members.

The musical Mary Poppins will be performed at Tauranga's Baycourt every night from Friday September 23 to October 7.

Presented by Tauranga Music Theatre and based on the Walt Disney movie and the stories of P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins is packed with supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventures, music numbers and magical moments.

Played by Sara Toomer, Mary Poppins arrives at 17 Cherry Tree Lane after George and Winifred Banks' out of control children, Jane and Michael, have driven away yet another nanny. With help from the chimney-sweep Bert, played by Reiss Jenkinson, Mary Poppins leads the family through a series of magical encounters and adventures that they will never forget.

With spectacular songs A spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cheree and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, it is a must see family musical.

"We even have some matinee performances," says Bert. "So all the kiddies can come along with their nans 'n pops 'n uncs 'n arntals, and even with their mums 'n dads."

What lovely people you are to do that. Did you sing to the kids on-site? Anyone who has had a kid in hospital will know what I mean.
