Papamoa man charged over train assault

Three men, including one from Papamoa, have now been charged in relation to an incident on an Auckland train in August.

The incident, involving a group of men who were disguised with masks and aprons, took place on Saturday August 12, and included the assault of two teenagers also aboard the train.

A 35-year-old Papamoa man has been charged with Assault with Intent to injure and will appear in the Auckland District Court on October 11.

A 32-year-old Rolleston man has been charged with Assault and will appear in Auckland District Court on October 10.

A 31-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with Indecent Exposure and will appear in the Auckland District Court on October 5.

Auckland City Police Constable Gene Smith says there has been a large amount of public interest in this case.

'Police would like to thank the public for the information provided, and Transdev and Auckland Transport for their support. These arrests will help provide reassurance to not only the victims, but also other people travelling on our public transport network.”

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.

Good that these bogies who went off the rails got caught and taken down to the station. With a bit of luck they'll get shunted off to the caboose for a while. We're stoked.
