Three-bin system a good one

Well said, Pastor Bruce Adams (page 3, The Weekend Sun, September 22). As a relative newcomer to Tauranga, I am appalled at the refuse removal systems here. I now live on a small road in Bethlehem and have counted no less than seven trucks collecting various bins on a Wednesday, while an eighth comes around on a Friday. What an inefficient waste of time, labour and fuel.

The three-bin system is a good one. However, to prevent any unemployment among the current contractors, I would like to suggest that the city be partitioned into, say, four or five areas and that contractors are then invited to tender for specific areas. Apart from the savings made in respect of fuel etc., the tender system in itself would lead to more cost-efficiencies.
