Victory at the finish line

Shelley took part in her first ever marathon.

Runners and walkers were cheered on as they sweated it out on the road towards the Tauranga International Marathon finish line.

The Tauranga International Marathon kicked off at 7am-4pm at The Waterfront on The Strand where people either ran or walked 42.2km, 1.1km, 10km, 5km or 2km for kids.

The route took participants around some of Tauranga's iconic locations like the Tauranga water-front, the Daisy Hardwick boardwalk, the base Mauao loop track, the Marine Parade coastal highway to the finish line at Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa.

Peak Safety and emergency management medic Michelle Robinson says lots of locals were cheering on the participants and everyone was just having a great time.

'It's been a wonderful day, the weather has held out for us, we've had no rain and everyone is just having a great time.”

All marathon finishers received a finisher medal and cash prizes were offered to the top three male and female overall runners.
