Steamers and Waikato supports packed out the Tauranga Domain in anticipation for a battle like no other- and they definitely got it- with a final score of 36-32 to Steamers.

The Steamers held a steady lead in the first half, but Waikato's three tries in the second half created for a tight game in the last few minutes.

Steamers were first to get a try with Chase Tiatia sneaking a try in the first 10 minutes after a quick recycled ball.

Waikato came back fighting with a try of their own, making a tied score of 5-5.

Around 30 minutes into the game Lalakai Foketi put Steamers back into the lead with another try, but not long after was sent off with a yellow card, leaving the Steamers with 14 men.

At half time the tension was building with Waikato getting a try, making the score 19-12 with Steamers still out in front.

However, Waikato came back fighting in the second half with a try and then a successful penalty kick, 22-19.

From this Steamers struggled to maintain the lead, even after Waikato's Pita Ahki was sent off with a yellow card.

Waikato scored a try in the last 10 minutes and then another before Steamers Tom Franklin booted the ball out to end the game.
