Two seriously injured in Waihi crash

Two people have been airlifted from the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 2, near Athenree Road.

A police media spokesperson says two cars were involved in the crash.

“Police received a report of vehicle collision involving two cars at around 1.40pm on Athenree Road involving two cars.

“Two people have been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and another two people have minor injuries.

“The road is not blocked, but motorists can expect some delays.”

A reporter at the scene says traffic is currently backed up.

“Hundred cars heading northbound are stuck in a massive long cue and hardly any southbound traffic is coming towards us.”
