Dog loses leg after cow breaks it

Sasha with her injury and Sasha now.

A dog which had to have its leg amputated after it was broken when kicked by a cow is the last animal on the SPCA's annual List of Shame.

After a kick from a cow broke her leg, Sasha was left to hobble on three legs for two weeks before SPCA Inspectors were alerted, says a post on the SPCA Tauranga Facebook page.

'Despite the fact that Sasha was obviously lame and in pain, her owner failed to seek vet treatment for her.

'SPCA Inspectors stepped in and took Sasha for the urgent vet care she needed. Unfortunately her leg injury was too severe, and she underwent surgery to amputate the limb.” Sasha's previous owner was prosecuted by the SPCA, and after months of recovery she was rehomed to a new caring family.

'Animal lovers, thank you for donating to make this all possible. You helped rescue Sasha. You keep our Inspectors on the road.

'You give hurting animals the vet care they need. And in times of terrible neglect and deliberate cruelty, you prosecute those responsible.

'We couldn't do it without people like you. www.rnzspca.org.nz/Maggie
