Motorists travelling to the Tonga v New Zealand game in Hamilton tonight are being advised of potential delays.

Traffic is expected to be delayed later this evening as a result of a crash in Ohinewai.

A police media spokesperson says a truck hit a barrier, near Ohinewai South Road just after 8am today.

"No injuries have been reported. The truck is currently blocking the southbound lane, and traffic management is in place.

"Northbound traffic on State Highway 1 is being diverted on to Ohinewai South Road near Fisher Road.

"Vehicles travelling southbound are also being diverted on to Onhinewai South Road at the Tahuna Road intersection.

"For anyone travelling in to Hamilton tonight for the game, please make sure you allow extra time for your journey and obey all traffic signs."

Police says the accident comes as a reminder to also check speed, drive to the conditions and make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained.

Yet another crash involving a truck. Government needs to set up an investigation into the heavy transport sector and its abysmal driving record. Who is licensing these drivers now? How often are the drivers random tested for drugs? The drivers log books are easily manipulated and the potential for breaches being detected is now remote?
