A baby has been flown to hospital after the boy was run over in a Whangamata driveway.

The one-year-old boy was flown to Waikato Hospital this morning in a serious condition.

Waikato police Senior Sergeant Ray Malcolmson says the child was struck by a vehicle in a driveway of a holiday property in Beverley Tce around 9.15am.

It was understood the child was with his parents, who are tourists visiting from Germany.

Ray says they flew with the child from the beachside town to the hospital.

Police attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances.
