Welcoming ‘the big guy’ to town

Batman will be making a return to the Trustpower Christmas Parade in Downtown Tauranga this weekend.

Tis the season to take the kids to the Christmas parade, and this weekend Western Bay of Plenty residents are spoiled for choice, with three Christmas parades scheduled for tomorrow.

The Trustpower Christmas Parade in Downtown Tauranga gets underway at 11am with amazing new floats, a host of well-known cartoon and movie characters, entertainment, music and, of course, the big guy himself.

The parade runs from Devonport Road (starting at 2nd Avenue) down to the Harrington Street intersection on The Strand.

The Little Entertainment Company will be on the waterfront at the conclusion of the parade with rides and bouncy castles, shaved ice and other treats until 2pm.

The Seeka Te Puke Christmas Float Parade, celebrating 50 years since local motor racing legend Denny Hulme won the 1967 Formula One World Championship, also gets underway at 11am on Jellicoe Street in Te Puke.

Floats will be judged within their category based on the theme of Denny's life and achievements and the parade will also feature his MG TF 1500, his 1973 McLaren M23 race car (now owned by Sir Colin Giltrap) and the Austin Mini he used to drive when he lived in London.

Prizegiving will be outside the post office at 1.30pm and the parade also includes a Multicultural Food Festival with food and fundraising from local community groups.

The Lions Club of Katikati is holding the Katikati Christmas Parade along the Main Street starting from Earl Drive at 3pm, with Santa arriving in a traditional reindeer-led sleigh.

The parade will be followed by ‘Santa in the Park' at Moore Park at the conclusion of the parade, featuring entertainment, bouncy castles and games for the kids as well as food and quick fire raffles until 6pm.
