Christmas spirit glowing across Tauranga

The Welcome Bay Vet Clinic always decorates for the holidays.

Homes across Tauranga and the wider Western Bay of Plenty are glowing with Christmas spirit.

Homeowners have spent weeks, or even months, decorating their homes and gardens to brighten the night with dazzling displays of Christmas lights.

The Sun Media Christmas Light Drive guide is available below, so gather your family and friends together, plan your route, and head out to see what has been achieved.

Judging takes place on the nights this weekend for the major prize of a Christmas hamper, and spot prizes.

The Christmas Light Drive gets more popular every year.

Not only are more people joining in and decorating their houses, but more people are getting into the spirit and driving around to admire the lights.

Sun Media has even had people from other cities letting us know about their Christmas lights. People in Wellington, Hastings and Whangarei seem to be getting into the Christmas spirit.

The residents of Plover Place in Maungatapu are once again lighting up the street for Christmas.

This is a popular area with hundreds of people flocking to see the lights every year.

"We invite you and your family to come and enjoy our lights and support the Waipuna Hospice," says one resident.

"However, we do ask that wherever possible, you walk down the street. There are on average 200 plus people walking the street at any given time, including plenty of children.

"Safety is of paramount importance to us. We understand that some people have to drive, and would still love to have you."

People are reminded that there is no parking available on the street.

"Anyone who does attempt to park on the street can potentially be boxed in... and nobody wants that.

"Merry Christmas from Plover Place."

Is SH2, between Katikati and Tauranga, a dangerous stretch of road?

Yes, there are too many cars on it and it’s not designed to handle that sort of traffic volume.
No, people just need to slow down and pay attention to their driving.
