Police have released the name of the 38-year-old woman killed in a crash with a tanker.

Mele Heilalafuitahi Hiva of Opotiki died when the car she was in crashed with the tanker on SH2 at Kutarere, near Opotiki around 9pm on Sunday.

Police say no one else was injured in the crash.

'Police express their condolences to her family,” says a statement from police.

'The cause of the crash remains under investigation.”

A number of people stopped at the scene to assist and Police are grateful for this.

To assist with investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash Police would like to speak with two people described as being of Indian descent who assisted at the scene.
