UPDATED: A "pre-planned search warrant" is the cause behind armed police blocking off a street in Tauriko this morning.

Armed police were spotted stopping traffic from entering Paerangi Place, just before 7.30am.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the raid was in relation to drugs.

Another reader says police at the scene told him they were "cleaning out a building".

A police spokesperson told SunLive that the armed offenders' sqaud was called in to assist as a precaution.

"As a result methamphetamine and several firearms were recovered.

"Three people are currently assisting Police with enquiries, and enquiries are ongoing."

Armed police have blocked off a road in Tauriko this morning.

A SunLive reader emailed in to say police officers armed with rifles have blocked off Paerangi Place.

He says police at the scene told him 'they were cleaning out a building”.

SunLive is waiting on confirmation from police about what is happening in the area.
