Cream spillage on SH29

Motorists are being warned to drive with care following a cream spillage on State Highway 29.

Up to 200 litres of cream along 1km stretch has been spilt from a Fronterra tanker on SH29, between Takitimu roundabout and Barkes Corner, towards Tauriko.

Police were called to the incident at around 12.14am.

"The road between the Lakes roundabout and Cameron Rd will be blocked for some time.

"Open-speed restrictions in the left-hand lane will be in place between the Lakes roundabout and Tauriko for traffic from Tauranga to the Kaimais."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says fire is on the scene hosing down the spill this morning.

According to another SunLive reader, the spillage caused a two car crash on the highway.

There are no reports of any injuries.
