UPDATE: A man is in serious condition after being hit by a car on Hewletts Road this morning.

A St John spokesperson says two ambulances responded to the scene.

"St John treated one patient in a serious condition and transported them to Tauranga Hospital ED."

Earlier: A pedestrian has been hit by a car on Hewletts Road this morning.

A police spokeswoman says they were notified of the incident at 7.35am and ambulance are currently at the scene.

The bus lane is blocked, but traffic is still flowing.

The spokeswoman says the incident took place near the BakeShack.

A witness at the scene says there is a large police presence.
