Tauranga residents are among the most sexually active people in the country, according to a new survey.
This year’s Mega Kiwi Sex Survey shows the average Kiwi is having sex two to three times a week – about 133 times a year – and Tauranga, along with Gisborne, Palmerston North and Whanganui, is leading the way.

The survey of more than 1500 people shows 31 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the quality and frequency they are having sex, while 12 per cent are not so pleased.
Women were more satisfied than men – with a satisfaction rate of 34 per cent compared with 29 per cent, with those who are unsatisfied saying they want more, rather than better, sex.
Women are also more confident about their sexual expertise, with 29 per cent rating their skillset as “excellent” compared to only 25 per cent of men.
The survey shows people in relationships are more satisfied with their sex lives than people who are single, while unemployed respondents were more content than employed respondents.
More than 30 per cent of people admitted to thinking about a previous partner during sex and almost a quarter say they have thought about work while doing the deed.
Others admitted to thinking about food, housework, bills and celebrities.
When it comes to body parts, one in three women rate their breasts as their sexiest asset, followed by eyes (25.5 per cent), bottoms (13.8 per cent) and legs (8.8 per cent).
Kiwi men rated their eyes as the sexiest part of their bodies, followed by their bottoms and smiles.
Women also have sex for the first time a year earlier than men on average, losing their virginity at 16.
They also have more sexual partners, with an average of eight compared with six for men.
One in five respondents to the survey admitted to having had 20 or more sexual partners.
