Stabbing in Timaru

Police are investigating a stabbing in Timaru on Saturday evening where a 44-year-old man died as a result of stab wounds.

At about 6.50pm on Saturday the July 28, 2012 police were called to a residential address in the Marchwiel area of Timaru.

A 44-year-old Timaru male was located suffering from stab wounds.  He was transported to Timaru Public Hospital where he passed away shortly after his arrival.

He was Tony Francis Crammond. His body will be released to next of kin.

The deceased has been transported to Christchurch where a post mortem was carried out this afternoon.

Police and a representative from the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) have been conducting an examination of the scene today and this will continue tomorrow.

Police have spoken to those persons present at the scene when the incident occurred.

A team of 15 Police are currently working on the investigation.  No one has been charged in relation to the incident.
