The man killed by a train in Otumoetai on Thursday morning has been named by police.
Tauranga man Scott Siddall, 42, died after being struck by train near Ngatai Road at about 5.40am on Thursday.
A train stopped on the tracks near Ngatai Road.
There were no suspicious circumstances and police report the matter is in the hands of the Coroner.
Detective Sergeant Pete Blackwell says the man was identified by fingerprints.
Neighbours at the scene say they heard the train’s whistle sounding just before the train stopped on the tracks as it straightened from the curve by Western Road leading up to the Otumoetai Road over-bridge.
Police were called to the scene and cordoned off the area next to Ngatai Road.
Police say the driver is being assisted by Victim Support and a kaumatua blessed the scene.
