Police are investigating a large slip in Matua that they believe has been there for the last two days.

Emergency services were called to investigate the slip at the end of Rewarewa Place at the end of the Matua peninsula just before 1pm.

Police say the slip has just been reported to police from someone who noticed it from across the estuary in the Ngatai Road area.

The slip is at the back of the properties on Rewarewa Place and is about 20metres high and more than 30metres wide.

Council has been advised of the slip and engineers are investigating.

Another slip has formed off in Tauranga Harbour off Plummers Point Road.
