A farmer is in a serious condition in Waikato Hospital after being sat on and kicked by a cow.

The Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue helicopter was called to the Tihoi farm, on Western Bay Road, about 4pm on Monday where the 56-year-old man suffered serious injuries.

Greenlea Rescue pilot Nat Every says the cow was being loaded out of the yards when it sat on the farmer before kicking him.

'He had some facial injuries and multiple internal injuries,” says Nat.

'He was pretty crook. He needed to get to a hospital rather swiftly.”

He was flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.
