Waihi Beach flooding on agenda

Western Bay of plenty District Council's Policy and Planning Committee is this morning relocating to Waihi Beach to decide on adopting a plan change for floodable areas at the beach.

Discussions begin at 9am at Waihi Beach RSA on whether or not to adopt Plan Change 45 – Waihi Beach Floodable Areas.

The day after the flooding at Waihi Beach in April 2013.

WBOPDC resource management manager Phillip Martelli says the plan change is to update council's District Plan maps, with more properties now listed on them since they were last reviewed in 2000 or earlier.

'[If adopted by council], residents inside the map areas at Waihi Beach wanting to undertake development to their properties will need to be clear the area is floodable and building and development needs to take this into account.”
