Teen arrested for robbery

Hamilton Police who arrested a teenage robber earlier today say they still want the public's assistance in locating the boy's co-offenders.

Detective Sergeant Nick O'Brien of the Hamilton CIB says sound investigative work resulted in the identifying of the offender and his arrest at a Chartwell address early this afternoon.

"The arrest related to the robbery of a River Rd store about 7.30pm on Friday in which two males entered the shop, one armed with a black pistol, the other with a screw driver.

"The offenders fled the store with a small sum of cash before responding Police located a stolen car abandoned on nearby Donny Ave and as a result of that the juvenile is facing aggravated robbery and unlawfully taking a motor-vehicle charges but we would very much like to hear from anyone who could help us identify the second offender."

Mr O'Brien says today's arrest highlights the importance of parents and caregivers taking an interest in the people their children are associating with and the activities they get up to.

"There are a number of agencies that work in partnership with Police who deal with vulnerable young people; the biggest challenge is that first step in asking for help."

Anyone with any information on the outstanding offender in Friday's robbery is asked contact Mr O'Brien at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
